Nestlé Toque d'Or 2009 Grand Finals Schedule
It's here, the Schedule for the 2009 Grand Finals of the Nestlé Toque d'Or has now been announced. Each of the 5 teams will have their own chance to live their dream, preparing and serving a three-course lunch to 100 paying diners and managing their concept restaurant for a day. The competition once again returns to the BBC Summer Good Food Show between the 10th & 14th of June at the NEC Birmingham.
Starting the competition off on Wednesday 10th June will be the team from City of Bristol College, winners of the competition back in 1991. Following them on Thursday 11th June will be Belfast Metropolitan College. Friday 12th June sees 2007 winners Blackpool & the Fylde College competing. Cooking up a storm over the weekend will be North Devon College, Barnstaple and first time entrants to the competition Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne competing Saturday 13th June and Sunday 14th June respectively.
To add to the pressure and increase the tension, the young competitors will perform under the watchful eyes of some of the catering industries top professionals. TV Chef and restaurateur James Tanner will head up the team of judges. James, with his brother Chris, owns the award winning Tanners Restaurant in Plymouth, making James well and truly qualified to express his opinions about the performances of the 5 finalist teams!
David Field, managing director, Nestlé Professional, said: "The entry standards in this competition just get better and better and this year, the 21st birthday of Nestle Toque d'Or has proved to be no exception."
"Students this year have had to put their creative culinary talent and business acumen to the fore to make their restaurant concept work in the reality of the tough economic climate. The five finalist teams have really taken this on board; during the heats, they have excelled in bringing their innovative menus to life with passion, professionalism and flair."
